The Winter Water Factory at the University of Arizona’s Maricopa County campus opened Monday.
The factory is located on the campus of the university and serves as a winter water treatment facility, which also uses cold water to cool buildings.
It’s located near a former dairy farm and was designed to keep buildings cool.
“The goal is to make the facility a very effective, very effective water treatment system for the city of Phoenix, to have it serve the entire region,” said Mark E. Kranz, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at the university.
“I think the project is really about making the plant as water efficient as possible.”
The factory was designed by local artist David Gorman and his team.
The company is located at 5200 W. Camelback Drive.
They hope to expand their production capacity to serve Phoenix, Tucson, Chandler, Glendale, and Tucson, as well as surrounding counties.
